The Purse

$10,000 cash split between the Open Men and Women (Solo and Team) categories. Plus about a ga-jillion dollars in merchandise and awards to the mortals. We’ll award three-deep for stages and the overall in each category.

Spot Bikes = Certified Sultans of Swank

Why? Because they're building singlespeed trophy frames for the winners of the SS Solo and SS team categories. They came on as a sponsor last month and it's just one of those relationships that makes a lot of sense. They're a Colorado company. We're a Colorado company. They like arhyle. We like argyle. They're slightly crazy. We're...well, maybe a bit more than that, but let's just say that we're in adjacent wings of the same theoretical mental health facility.

Here's a pic of the frame that the winners will walk away with. What you don't see is the winners name modestly emblazoned on the top tube right in front of the seat tube. We asked them to make it look like my grandpa's golf socks. Bit of a clothes horse he is, the ol' duffer.

Like the bike? Go check out Spot's website and witness some of the paint craziness they've got going on. It's amazing. Want to hear about the Spot team? Head to Outside Online - they're hosting Jeff Carter's blogs throughout the entire event and the lead-up to it. The first one (this was written on June 1) is priceless.

...and if you see the folks from Spot you might want to thank them for bringing Dale's Pale Ale along for the ride as a sponsor. Party on Wayne.

Which belt buckle is yours? The one that says "Bad Muther-@!*!'er" on it. Wear it loud, wear it proud.

The Breck Epic Rider's Auction & Industry Cup

So we're putting up $10,000 in cash and about $75,000 in merchandise into the prize kitty. While that's cool (and a fair bit more than most other mountain bike races) we still wish that we could do more. We think we may have found a way. The Breck Epic Riders Auction. Here's how it works:

Riders in the race can bring merchandise from themselves or from their sponsors. We'll be creating an online auction to sell it, and pimping said auction with our monstrous email list and PR minions. Proceeds from the auction can be allocated evenly across the board to all categories, or to a specific category according to its donator's wishes. We'll be contributing substantially to the auction with donated items from Shimano, Santa Cruz, Crank Brothers, Giro, Ergon, Jett MTB and others.

Think of it as "a purse on top of THE purse." To be eligible to benefit from the rider's auction kitty you must have donated an item to it.

Make sense? Feel free to give Mike a shout for details.
